Home Builders Council
HBC's primary purpose is to provide students scholarships and financial support through grants and other donations to advance homebuilding educational programs at high schools, community colleges and universities.
The HBC coordinates the Annual Design/Build Competition, which is held each spring at the Orange County Marketplace. A two-day event with high school and community college teams competing to build a structure (lifeguard tower, yard barn, etc.) like in the real world with architectural and building plans and building and planning code inspections, but in one day. This is a well-attended event and a great vocational program for students studying residential or commercial construction.
The HBC also works closely with UC Irvine Extension on the Light Construction and Design Management (LCDM) Certificate Program. Since the program was created in the late 1970s, more than 430 students have graduated with a certification needed to enhance skills of residential and commercial construction management.
